William Guy Sayers

1929-2026

William Guy Sayers, 97, of Fredonia, NY, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026 with two of his granddaughters by his side, in Kinzua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Warren, Pa under the care of Hospice of Warren County, where he was known as grandpa by the staff.

Bill was born on June 17, 1929 in Jamestown, NY to Josephine Lapaglia and Robert N Sayers. He married Frances Sammartino on March 31, 1951 in Dunkirk moving to Fredonia where they started their family and became lifetime residents of Fredonia. Bill attended Fredonia schools and enlisted in the US Navy from December 1945 to December 1947. He was very proud of his service to his country.

He was an employee of SUNY at Fredonia for 32 years as a plumber steamfitter and upon retiring he was gifted with an honorary degree.

Bill was a member of many clubs and organizations in the area including American Legion Post #59, VFW #6390 and the Lakeside Club Dunkirk.

Bill played on fast pitch softball teams for many years and was a loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills.

Surviving are five sons, Robert, Fredonia, NY, his children, Eric, Brett and Heather, Michael (Donna) Lakewood, NY, children, Melissa, Jaime, Michael and Joseph, Kenneth (Karen) Addy, Washington, children, Hannah, Elizabeth, Esther and Rebecca, Thomas, Brocton, NY, children, Susan, Julia, and Olivia, William (Michelle) Front Royal, Virginia, children April and Miranda and 27 great grandchildren. Also a sister in law, Mary Matteo of California and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Frances, a sister, Blanche and grandson David.
