Raymond J. Tanner, 77, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday September 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Following graduation from Falconer Central School in 1967, Ray proudly served his country in the US Army from 1967-69 during the Vietnam War.
For many years, Ray was a self-employed contractor whose strong work ethic, skilled craftmanship, and willingness to help others earned him the respect and friendship of many throughout the community. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured time spent with his family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow. An avid golfer and fisherman, Ray found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether casting a line, spending a day on the golf course, or sharing stories and laughter with family and friends. He was a member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Osborne Tanner, whom he married September 25, 1992; four children, Carrie (Crist) (Gifford) Detweiler of Mayville, Jason Gifford of Jamestown, Melissa Gifford of Jamestown, and Eric (Angel) Tanner of Jamestown and five cherished grandchildren, Natalie Alvarez, Olivia Aman, Alex Alvarez, Hunter Detweiler and Dominic Gifford, who brought him immense pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Tanner and Steven Tanner.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday at the Lind Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 1-3 pm prior to the service.
A celebration of life will be held from 6 to 9 pm Saturday at the American Legion, Mayville.
