Mary M. (Firster) Conklin Hickox

Mary M. (Firster) Conklin Hickox, 87, of Lebanon Rd. Town of Coldspring, passed away Monday (September 14, 2026) at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo.

She was born March 25, 1939 in Oil City, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Frank L. and Nina M. (Powers) Firster.

Mary was a 1957 graduate of Randolph Central School and retired from Randolph Central School as a cleaner in the Janitorial department. In years earlier, she worked at a number of places, including, the former; Cottage and Eddies Restaurants and Jamestown Wholesale Grocery. She also worked at many current restaurants including, R & M, The Hide-A-Way and the Randolph American Legion.

Mrs. Hickox was a member of the Randolph American Legion Unit 181, Randolph Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Unit 6533 and Coldspring Fire Department Auxiliary. Mary was a life member of the International Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge and served at Salamanca # 96 and Randolph # 2273. She was a well- known baker and enjoyed sharing her amazing cookies with any and all people.

Surviving are two daughters; Susan L. Cox of Steamburg and Becky S. John of Bath, NY. three sons, Scot E. Conklin of Steamburg, Bradley J. (Regina) Conklin of Randolph and Terry L. (Kim) Conklin of Little Valley, a sister; Edith "Sis" (Ray) Hoxie of Cattaraugus and eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Nina, a sister, Arthada "Butch" Firster in 1957 and her beloved husband William L. Hickox, whom she married on July 28, 1992 and who preceded her in death on April 4, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday (September 19, 2026) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph from where the family will receive friends from 1 to 3 prior to the service on Saturday. Burial/ Inurnment will follow in the Steamburg Cemetery.
