Karen J. Oberg, 83, of Jamestown, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 in UPMC Chautauqua.
She was born on July 28, 1943 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Clifford and Doris Kenyon Gustafson.
Karen was a 1961 graduate of Frewsburg Central School.
She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church.
In earlier years, she worked at the former Crescent Tool Co and was a dedicated homemaker for several years before returning to the workplace as a special education aide for 26 years at Frewsburg Central School.
Karen served as treasurer for Chautauqua County Special Olympics, was a foster parent for many years, and a cheerleading advisor for several years.
She enjoyed playing Sudoku, reading, puzzles, and walking outdoors.
Karen is survived by a daughter, Lisa Housemann; two sons, Randy Sitler and Doug (Anna) Sitler; a foster daughter, Heidi Unger; two stepsons, Chris Oberg (Narda Gatgen) and Owen (Patricia) Oberg; nine step-grandchildren: Leah, Maddie, Bridget, Lorraine, Eric, Payton, Lindsey, Jacob, and Josh Oberg; five step-great-grandchildren: Owen, Mia, Brett, Alexander, and Lennon Oberg; two sisters Barbara A. Williams and Linda M. Dahlgren; a niece, Linnea Dahlgren; and two nephews, David Waite and John Dahlgren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald D. Oberg, who passed away on March 4, 2025; her first husband and father of her children, Brad Sitler; two nephews, Walter Waite, Jr. and Brett Dahlgren; two step-grandchildren, Shaylynne and Evan Oberg; and two brothers-in-law, Don Williams and John Dahlgren.
A funeral service will be held at 7 pm on Friday, September 11, 2026 in Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg. Pastor Phillip Roushey will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.
Friends will be received from 5-7 pm on Friday in the funeral home.
