Sterling McGee, 95, of Greenhurst Village passed away Monday (September 14, 2006) in his home.
He was born May 8, 1931 in Jamestown, the son of Louis W. McGee and Winifred A Larson.
Sterling was a graduate of Falconer High School. He was very energetic and curious as a child with a very innovative mind; he built a homemade battery charger to keep his neighbor's farm equipment running. At an early age he was rebuilding engines, repairing and painting any car he could get his hands on and, also, invented his own tire balancer. This zeal and creativity were an important asset when he was drafted into the U.S. Marines serving from 1951 through 1952. Prior to retirement Sterling was employed by MRC-SKF for 41 years as a machinist.
At the age of 33 he became a Christian and was happy to share his joy. He was blessed with a beautiful tenor voice and sang at many weddings. In his mid-thirties when his son decided he didn't want to play guitar he started taking lessons. Singing gospel at many services in various churches.
Sterling attended and served the Lord at the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Kennedy. His favorite moments were singing the hymns, and hearing the word.
Surviving is his daughter Carol McGee Ball (Ron Ball) of Falconer; his son James S. McGee Sr. of Kennerdell, PA; five grandchildren: Timothy (Stacey) Ball, Catherine Ball-Kim (Scott Kim), James S. McGee Jr., Kristyn J. (Justin) Johnson, Lauren A. (Jay) Oste; 14 great grandchildren; and his good friend and caregiver Connie L. Dahlin
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia M. Berringer McGee; a grandson David Carl Ball, and his sister Elizabeth Laura McGee Winans.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the New Beginnings Baptist Church in Kennedy. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service Sunday in the church.
