With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donna M. Sheesley McElwain, who left us unexpectedly on September 16, 2026, after a brief illness at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Donna was born on March 6, 1947, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, to the late Thomas and Nellie Custer, and she embraced life with a vibrant spirit and an unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Donna’s journey through life was marked by love and perseverance. She first shared her life with Thomas Boyd Sheesley, with whom she raised two wonderful children, Scott and Lacie. Their journey together was tragically cut short when cancer claimed Thomas in 1984. Years later, she found love again with Larry McElwain, sharing many cherished moments until his passing. Despite these profound losses, Donna’s heart remained open and full of love for those around her.
An inspiring example of lifelong learning, Donna pursued her education with determination, ultimately earning a Master’s Degree in Business. Her career evolved from a role as a sales clerk at a department store to becoming a respected Materials Manager and Consultant, taking her across the globe. Her professional achievements were matched by her personal warmth, as she was known for her welcoming smile and her readiness to help anyone in need.
Donna’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. As an active member of Southside Baptist Church, she found great joy in starting a widows group, offering support and companionship to those facing similar losses. Her dedication to her church community reflected her generous spirit and love for others.
Outside of her professional and community endeavors, Donna found peace and happiness in her garden, nurturing flowers with the same care she bestowed upon her family and friends. Summers were spent swimming with her family at her son’s house, her beloved dog Lily always at her side. Her passion for travel was evident in the many adventures she embarked upon, embracing each opportunity to explore the world.
Donna’s legacy continues through her children, Scott Sheesley (Heidi Stone) and Lacie Burks (Barry), her grandchildren, Seth Hubbard (Kaci) and Robyn Ervin (Kevin), and her ten treasured great-grandchildren. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her love, laughter, and kindness.
A service to honor Donna’s life will be held on October 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Sunset Hill Cemetery, located at 665 County Touring Rte 32 (Hunt Rd), Jamestown, NY.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has reached out to share memories and words of kindness during this difficult time.
