Thomas Weaver Reitz, 83, of Bemus Point, passed away peacefully Wednesday July 29, 2026, in UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born December 12, 1942, in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Ronald B. and Elizabeth L. (Weaver) Reitz.
He was a 1960 graduate of Webster High School and later graduated from Paul Smith's College in 1966.
Tom was a veteran of the US Army serving from 1966-68 as a military policeman, achieving the rank of sergeant.
Following his discharge from the Army, Tom worked as a land surveyor in Rochester for Sear-Brown Engineers and for Popli Engineering until his retirement in 2002. Shortly after he moved to Bemus Point.
Tom loved working and being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for nearly his entire life. After he moved to Bemus Point, he worked as the groundskeeper at the Hotel Lenhart until he bought his 55-acre property. His attention then shifted from the Lenhart to making improvements and maintaining his property. He worked 6 days a week, weather permitting, until the age of 75 when he sold his property. In his 60s Tom joined the Lakewood YMCA and worked out there until the last six months of his life. At the age of 70 her took up running and ran several 5K races, even receiving 1st place in the "70 and over" group in one of his races.
Above all else Tom was a kind, considerate, and generous person who was well-liked by everyone.
Tom was a member of The Lawson Center, Bemus Point, Bemus Point Historical Society and Ingjald Lodge 65 Independent Order of the Vikings.
Surviving is his sister, Carol Reitz of Webster, NY and his companion, Mary Glatt of Ashville and her family.
In keeping with Tom's wishes, no funeral service or visitation will be observed.
Burial will be in Webster Rural Cemetery.
