Stephen S. Smith, 71, of Jamestown, passed away Friday, Aug. 7, 2026 in his home.
He was born in Jamestown on March 20, 1955, a son of the late Franklin and Josephine Filk Smith, and was a graduate of Southwestern Central School. Steve then served in the US Air Force from 1973 to 1976.
For many years he worked as a heavy equipment operator for International Union of Operating Engineers out of Lakeview, NY.
Steve was a member of the Lakewood American Legion and was an aviation and car enthusiast. His family will remember him as a kind, caring person.
Surviving are siblings, Diane (Bill) Whalen, Michael (Sarah) Smith, Daniel (Cyndy) Smith, and Chelou Hills; Steve's close friend of many years, Kim Styers; and many nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
