Scott Edward Bloyd, 71, of Mentor, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in the home he loved, surrounded by his family and closest friends, after a lengthy and courageous battle with heart disease. Though his heart grew weaker with illness, the love he had for his family, friends, and the life he built never did.
Scott was born May 13, 1955, in Grand Junction, Colorado. He carried his love for Colorado with him throughout his life, especially its Rocky Mountains, where he found peace and adventure.
A lifelong craftsman and innovator, Scott graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1979 with a degree in Wood Technology and later earned a degree in Business Administration from Western State College in 1983. His passion for furniture design and manufacturing took him across the United States, Mexico and Germany, where he established and managed manufacturing facilities and collaborated with respected companies including Bush Industries, Furniture Row, Kimball Hospitality, Friant, Sam Moore and RB Sigma. He took great pride in his work, creativity, craftsmanship and dedication, all of which left a lasting impact on the furniture industry.
While Scott was accomplished professionally, those who knew him best will remember him for the life he built outside of work. He loved fly fishing, camping, boating, riding ATVs, and tackling home improvement projects. Scott found true joy in the places that brought him peace--the majestic Rocky Mountains and the St. Lawrence River. It was there, surrounded by nature and the people he loved, that he created some of his most meaningful and treasured memories.
Above all, Scott loved his family. He was a proud father to his son, Justin Bloyd of Mentor, Ohio, and his daughter, Emily Bloyd (Ryan Stamper), of Geneva, Ohio. One of his greatest joys was being a Grandpa to his beloved granddaughter, Izabella Gowen, whose life brought him immense pride and happiness. Scott is also survived by his brother, Roger Bloyd of Littleton, Colorado, his wife, Sara Michael of Clymer, New York; her children, Paige Michael of St. Petersburg, Florida, Lauren Michael of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Dylan Michael of Clymer, New York. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gloria (Wagner) Bloyd, and his brother, Gregory Bloyd.
Scott will be remembered for his intelligence, remarkable craftsmanship, adventurous spirit, generous heart, and the love he shared with those closest to him. His legacy lives on through his family, the lives he touched, and the work he created.
