Ronald L. "Ronnie" Nies, 69, of Ashville, passed away at UPMC Chautauqua on Monday, July 27, 2026. He was born in Erie, PA on December 7, 1956, to the late Richard A. Nies, Sr. and Doris M. Holman Nies.
Ronnie expressed his art through everything he did. For many years, he was an auto body fabricator at Trux, Inc. in Wattsburg, PA. His brushwork of hand-painted lettering was exquisite.
As a sculptor and drawer, Ronnie crafted papier-mache pumpkins that continue to decorate his family's homes.
The Bills Mafia knew him as a devoted fan.
Ronnie's biggest joy was his family. Known as, "Pop" to his grandchildren, he was his grandson's biggest fan, spending every Saturday afternoon at Stateline Speedway watching him race go-karts.
Ronnie will be deeply missed by his wife, Rebecca Singer Nies, whom he married on October 16, 1976; his daughters, Amanda Harper and Kristina (James) Paul; his grandchildren, Chelsea Paul, Jarred Paul, and Payton Harper; his siblings, Lawrence Nies, Patricia Nies, and Kathy Papalia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his grandson, Chance Harper, and by his brother, Rick Nies.
A private Celebration of Life will be held.
