Robert P. Reimondo, 94, of Falconer passed away peacefully Monday, August 24, 202 in his sleep, at his home.
A lifelong area resident he was born September 30, 1931 in Jamestown, the son of the late John J. and Louise M. Verquer Reimondo.
Robert was a graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He served in the 180th Tank Company of the 45th Infantry Division. He was co-owner along with his late brother Don Reimondo of Home Decorating Company and Village Builders Inc. until his retirement.
He was a member of the former Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church in Falconer. Robert enjoyed spending time reminiscing with family and friends.
During Bob's final years he struggled with blindness and deafness. He refused to concede to either, living independently, with assistance from his daughter, grandson, and nephew Tim from across the pond. In the house he built and in which he passed, Bob continued to operate chainsaws, split firewood, ride mow his lawn, climb up on the roof, and drive a tractor (sometime into the pond), until his last day. Just this past spring he was underneath the crawlspace of his grandson's 150-year-old Cape Cod family cottage working to replace floor joists.
Perhaps the best way to summarize bob's life legacy would be with the word Devotion. First and foremost, Bob was devoted to his strong Catholic faith as a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Loreto RC Church in Falconer from birth unit its recent closure. Bob demonstrated honor and dedication to his country by proudly serving and seeing combat during the Korean War as Sargent in the US Army. Bob total love and loyalty to his entire family-always and forever. This was demonstrated in his unwavering commitment to his wife, Mary, during her final years suffering from dementia. He refused to leave her side. Robert Paul Reimondo epitomized devotion in all aspects of his entire life-to God, Country and Family.
He is survived by his two children: Sharon (Bill) Kilmartin of Jamestown, Daniel (Debbie) Reimondo of Falconer; two grandchildren: Billy (Sam) Kilmartin of Falconer, and Kaitlin Kilmartin of Jamestown; three great grandchildren: Izabella Kilmartin, Ryder Dascomb, Will Kilmartin; and his sister, Patricia Woltz of Gerry.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Turner Reimondo whom he married July 17, 1954 in Our Lady of Loreto Catholic Church, who died April 29, 2012; two brothers: Justin Reimondo, Don Reimondo, and a sister, Claudia Carlson.
A private family graveside service will be held in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Rev. Mark Itua pastor of Catholic Neighbors in Faith Parish will officiate.
Visitation will not be observed.
