Michael Patterson Moss, "Grumps" or "Bubba," a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly at his home in Dewittville, NY on Wednesday July 29, 2026, just days shy of his 84th birthday. Born on August 1, 1942, in Mayville, NY, Michael was the son of the late William Moss and Ruth Van Giesen. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Diane, with whom he shared a beautiful life; both of his parents; and his two sisters Jessie and Virginia, as well as two brothers Jim and Billy.
Michael is survived by his devoted son, Troy (Donna) Moss of Stockton, NY. He leaves behind
two treasured grandchildren, Joshua (Deborah) Moss of Ham burg, NY and Jenna (Jeremy) Farnsworth of Stockton, NY. His six great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Briella Moss, and Trenton, Noah, Bennett, and Oaklynn Farnsworth, were the center of his world and the source of endless pride and joy.
Michael and Diane married on December 22, 1960, and together they welcomed their son Troy on September 10, 1963. Family was the cornerstone of Michael's life, and his legacy continues through the love and laughter he shared with his family.
A proud veteran, Michael served in the US Navy as part of Attack Squadron Seventy-Five from 1961 to 1966, a period he often reflected on with pride.
After his military service, he dedicated 50 years to his work as a union laborer with companies like G.L Olson. In his retirement years, Michael found joy in working at the Chautauqua Golf Club, where he formed many lasting friendships, particularly with his son by his side.
Michael's passion for golf was a defining aspect of his life. He achieved the remarkable feat of approximately 20 holes-in-one, a testament to his skill and love for the game. Beyond the golf course, he was a steadfast supporter of his great-grandchildren's sports endeavors, always ready to cheer them on with unwavering enthusiasm.
He was a proud member of both the VFW and the American Legion, communities where he shared many meaningful connections. Known for his quick wit and vibrant personality, Michael was always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word. His willingness to be there for his family and friends will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In the words of his family, Michael will forever be remembered as the "BEST GRUMPS BY PAR," a fitting tribute to the joy and humor he brought into their lives. In the words of his golf buddies, Bubba surely will be missed at the course.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Michael's memory to a charity of your choice. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to family and country will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
The family will be holding a celebration of life for those who would like to attend on August 30th
from 2-4pm at Chautauqua Golf Club.
