Leslie Ann Lanning (Conterman)

1942-2026

Leslie Ann Lanning (Conterman)

Leslie Ann Lanning (Conterman) died peacefully August 21st, 2026 in Syracuse, NY with her daughters at her side.

Leslie was born July 28th, 1942 in Jamestown, NY to Janet (Peterson) and Fred Conterman. At the young age of 2, Leslie's Father passed, leaving her mother as the sole caregiver to her and older sister, Joanne. The strength and perseverance her mother displayed would become the blueprint to Leslie's life in the years to come.

Leslie was a 1960 graduate of Jamestown High School where she was a proud member of the JHS Red Raiders Marching band, playing the flute. She attended Jamestown Community College and then transferred to Syracuse University where she obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education.

While at Syracuse University, she met her future husband, Terrance J. Lanning. Their 17 year marriage produced two daughters, Kari and Jodie. After several years of relocating throughout the Northeast for Terry's career, their divorce led Leslie back to the Syracuse area. It was here, in Liverpool, NY, that she raised her daughters as a single mother.

Leslie spent her career teaching elementary education, retiring from Cicero Elementary after 20 years of dedicated service. Her firm but fun teaching style earned her an unforgettable reputation that to those who loved her will never forget.

Leslie's notable loves in life were rooted in her past; Jamestown, marching band, and anything Syracuse Orange. She was an SU Basketball fanatic through and through and was so hopeful to witness the "Gerry McNamara Era."

Without any doubt, her greatest love and accomplishment was her two daughters. Throughout her life she sacrificed and gave so much to ensure they grew to become strong and independent just like their momma.

Leslie is survived by her daughters, Kari Lanning of Syracuse, NY and Jodie Lanning (Jason Breyette) of West Chazy, NY; along with nieces and nephews, Martha VanScott, Scott Schwartz and Jeffrey Schwartz; beloved family friend, Shawn Boyer and multiple fur baby grandchildren.

There will be no formal services, but in honor of Leslie, please consider donations to The Humane Association of CNY.
