David T. "Cooter" Eckman, 72 of Frewsburg, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026 in UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born on December 5, 1953 in Jamestown, a son of the late Trent and Autumn Suckow Eckman.
He was a 1972 graduate of Frewsburg Central School.
Cooter had worked at Ellison Bronze and then The Resource Center. Along with his wife, Sandra, they owned and operated D&S Welding. For 40+ years, he also drove school bus for the Frewsburg Central School district. Many years ago, a student gave him the nickname "Cooter," and it stayed with him. He was very well liked by all who rode his bus.
He enjoyed camping and riding motorcycles and often took trips, together with Sandy. Dave could fix anything and had a God-given talent for welding, he was also a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.
Cooter is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sandra L. "Sandy" Rolph Eckman; a brother, Jeffrey Eckman; a sister, Sandy (Dennis) Colvenback; two nieces, Alivia (Jeff) Laska and Shanon (Bill) Bennett; one great-niece, Penelope (Diosdadi) Mamaril; two great-nephews, Atreyu and Finnegan Laska; and a great-great-niece, Alba Mamaril.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-nephew, Gabriel Phoenix Laska.
In keeping with his wishes, no service or visitation will be observed.
