1949-2026

Sharon L. Present

Sharon L. Present, 76, of Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point, died at 9:48 PM on Saturday (July 11, 2026) in UPMC Chautauqua Hospital from effects of a stroke she suffered in March of 2025.

She was born Nov. 1, 1949 in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Howard G. and Carol Burkland Hall. A 1967 graduate of Southwestern Central High School, she went on to graduate from the Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in 1970.

Following her graduation, she was employed by WCA Hospital for a short time until her marriage when she joined her husband while he completed his military service and education. She was then employed at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, N.C., North Hills Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mercy Hospital in Auburn, N.Y.

Returning to Jamestown in 1976, she was employed at the former Jamestown General Hospital until it closed in 1988. She then went to work at the Visiting Nursing Association of Western New York until her retirement in 2014 as a Patient Care Coordinator.

It can often be said that the best nurses are born rather than trained. That was certainly true of Sharon. She spent her entire life time providing loving care for others, always placing their needs ahead of her own.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Jeffrey B. Present, whom she married Sept. 12, 1970; three children: Julia E. (Williiam) Steen and Leanne A. Pineo, both of Bemus Point, and Jess P. (Erin) Present of Akron, N.Y.; five grandchildren; William S. Steen of Morgantown, W.V., Alyssa L. Steen of Savannah, Ga., Owen J. Pineo of Erie, Pa., Olivia E. Pineo of North East, Pa., and Kiernan S. Present of Akron, N.Y., a sister: Bonnie C. Anderson of Myrtle Beach, S.C., a sister-in-law: Kathy Hall (Mike Lennon) of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James D. Hall, and by a sister, Cynthia A. DeJoseph.

The family would like to extend their sincere heartfelt thanks to Erin Lobb and Isabel Boeira for their wonderful care and love they provided to Sharon during her illness. Also, thanks to the staff of 4D at UPMC Chautauqua for their kindness and care.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Bemus Point Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.

It is suggested that memorials may be made to the Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Department, 13 Alburtus Avenue, Bemus Point, NY 14712 or to a charity of one’s choice.
