Richard T. ‘Dick’ Moore

1937-2026

Richard T. “Dick” Moore, 88, of Frewsburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 in his home with his son, Dan, by his side.

He was born on December 9, 1937 in Spangler, PA, a son of the late Harvey and Lilith Jones Moore.

He attended school in Pennsylvania before enlisting in the US Army at the age of 17 in 1955, requiring his mother's consent. He served as a medic during the Korean War and was discharged in

1957. He was a proud veteran and very dedicated to the American Legion. He was a life member of the American Legion Samuel Derby Post 556 serving as commander three different times, and was also a member and commander of the Sons of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Randolph VFW Auxiliary 6533, Falconer Moose Lodge #2301, and Southern Chautauqua Club Associates. Dick was a life member of the Frewsburg Fire Department and the Carroll Rod & Gun Club.

He received the Chautauqua County Legionnaire of the Year award in 2015.

Prior to retirement, he was employed at Jamestown Container Co. for many years and had worked at New Process in Warren, PA in earlier years.

Dick and his late wife, Edie, enjoyed camping and he enjoyed visiting family back home in Cresson, PA. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, playing tickets at the clubs, bowling, and

enjoyed riding his four-wheeler. He played softball for the teams at the Frewsburg Fire Dept. and the Frewsburg Legion. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. One of the many things for which he will be remembered is his sense of humor.

Dick is survived by his children: Gwendolyn (Stan) Funcell, Bethany (Randy) Beckstrom, Daniel (Melanie) Moore, Bruce (Bridgett) Moore, Matthew (Lacey) Moore; a step-son Greg (Laurie) Lindholme; 13 grandchildren: Bradley Beckstrom, Joshua (Michele) Beckstrom, Lindsey (Jake) Finnerty, Alyshia (Justin) Jones, Lorin (Cliff) Lynch, Kolbe Moore, Addison Moore, Grace Moore, Aiden Moore, Lynaya Moore, Layla Moore, Jennifer (Dave) Miller, Lucas Lindholme; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Dorothy Wagner; the mother of his children Carol Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather Joyce Moore; his wife of 32 years, Edith “Edie” Rowley Moore, whom passed away on July 16, 2017; a great -grandson Landyn Beckstrom; a brother Norman Moore; and a sister Anna Jean McIntyre.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 31, 2026 in Peter son Funeral Home, Frewsburg.

Burial with full military honors will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday in the funeral home where a firemen's service will be held at 5:45 pm.
