Joan Cimo
1932-2026
Joan Cimo, age 93, died peacefully Friday, July 10, 2026 at the home of her daughter in Jamestown. She was born on December 4, 1932 in Charleroi, PA, the daughter of the late Walter and Freida (Neiger) Swearer and was a 1951 graduate of Mayville Central School.
Joan retired from the Alltel Corporation after 36 years of service, first as a telephone operator and later in the assignment department. She also worked as a seamstress specializing in alterations and helped the Jamestown High School Marching Band by making instrument
covers. Joan volunteered for Meals On Wheels and was a member of the Jamestown Area Singles Club where she enjoyed Friday night card games.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sarro with whom she made her home; four grandsons, Jason Sarro, Justin Sarro, Owen Cimo and Nathanael Cimo; one great-grandson, Tage Sarro and three great-granddaughters, Chole Cimo, Jessa Thomas and Ella Sarro; four nephews, Edward Jr., George, Douglas and Jerry Swearer; and her daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cimo.
Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Swearer Jr. in 2011; sister-in-law, Jean Swearer in 2024; and her son, Dennis Cimo in 2024.
A private family service will be held, and visitation will not be observed. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
