George H. Roat, 91, of 15 Monticello Court, Lakewood, NY passed away at 8:56 p.m. Saturday July 25th, 2026, at Heritage Park in Jamestown, NY.
George was born on June 7th, 1935, at his family's home in Jamestown, NY to Theodore and Helen Roat. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1953. George served as the Fire Chief at the Busti Fire Department from 1976-1982. One of his proudest accomplishments was saving the Lobb children from a burning home in March of 1977, onto which he was awarded a plaque. George's previous jobs included working at a creamery and a gas station until he began his employment as a machinist at Weber Knapp, from where he retired after 22 years. He enjoyed woodworking, taking walks, and mowing lawns/shoveling snow for his neighbors. He also very much enjoyed visiting and playing with his friend Gordon's dog Sophie. George was a kind and social man. He was a widower of his wife Pamela Roat, for whom he cared as she fought but lost a battle with cancer.
George is survived by his stepdaughter, Dorothy Murray Braverman (Gary), grandchildren, Drew and Henry Braverman, and good friend, Gordon F. Murray.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by his previous wife Marietta A. Roat, last wife Pamela Roat, his younger sister, Catherine H. Cobb, and his beautiful miniature collie, Laddie.
George's final wishes were for no funeral and/or celebration of life to be held but rather to be cremated and placed alongside Marietta A. Roat at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood.
As an avid dog lover, the family suggests memorials be made to the Chautauqua County Humane Society. Share your condolences at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
