Donald Short, 97, of Jamestown NY passed away to meet his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was born in Falconer, NY on April 18, 1929 and graduated from Falconer Central High School in 1947. After graduating, he worked for Ludwick Construction and was a journeyman cement finisher for several years. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1950-1954 in Korea. Don married the love of his life, Shirley Short (née Robbins) on October 13, 1956. Don worked as a Service Manager at Stateside Motors until 1991 and then worked for the Village of Falconer until retirement in 2000.
Don was a second century blood donor and past member of the Village of Falconer Flood Committee. He enjoyed his involvement with the Boy Scouts as a Cub Master and Leader with his son, Craig. He was recognized in the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame. He was also a member of the Pan American Road Race Team, traveling a 1900-mile race in Mexico in 1954. He was considered a "jack of all trades" and thoroughly enjoyed fixing things and helping friends and family. Don was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and in his 90's he took up pool while living at LSS. His greatest joy in life was sharing, helping, and caring about people in his life.
Don is a long-time member of the Levant Wesleyan Church serving on the church board, as a Sunday school teacher, and on the Visitation Team. Most recently, Don attended the Fluvanna Community Church. Don's biggest joy in life was serving the Lord and sharing his faith with others.
Don was survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley, daughter, Pam (Mark) Eckendorf, daughter-in-law Kathy Short, grandchildren Jennifer (Gary) Short, Amy Eckendorf, Jonathan Eckendorf, and great granddaughter, Gracelynn. Don was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Ethel Short and his son Craig Short.
A funeral will be held at Falconer Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 21st. Visitation will be from 10:00am- 12:00pm followed by a service at 12:00pm. The Rev. Dayle Keefer will officiate. For those who cannot attend, the funeral will be live-streamedhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1408513034670164/
