Bernita W. Abers

Bernita W. Abers, 83, of Ashville, NY, passed away peacefully at her son's home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with family at her side. She was born July 12, 1943, in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of the late William Raistrick Jr, and Wilma E. Hallenbaugh Raistrick.

Bernita had attended Mayville Central School. She had worked as a receptionist for Associated Healthcare in Jamestown, NY as well as other various places of employment.

She was a life member of the Ashville Fire Department where she served as an EMT-D. She also belonged to the Panama Baptist Church and the Harmony Senior Citizens. She enjoyed painting, music, cooking, rooting for the Buffalo Bills and NASCAR, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In earlier years she enjoyed singing in a band with her daughter, Robin, the San Antonio Rose Band.

Bernita is survived by her three children, Robin (Kevin) Conklin of Corry, PA, Holly (Carl Pearson) Abers of Busti, NY, and Daniel (Michelle) Abers of Ashville, NY, four grandchildren, Shawn (Kristen) Abers, Danielle (Ryan) Hunter, Brelynn (Joshua) Ball, and Kaitlyn (Daniel) Dulong, nine great-grandchildren, Kadyn, Johnathyn and Lillian Abers, Elliye, Rylee, and Evelynn Ball, Jack, and Reed Hunter and Willow Dulong, and one on the way, Rowan Dulong (expected in Sept), and two sisters, Cherryl Morrison and Kathleen (Chuck Hallowell) Raistrick. The family would like to give a special thank you to Bernita's caregivers, Suzanne Svensson, Amy Carmen, and Sue Hawley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Daniel E. Abers, whom she married on January 27, 1962, a brother, Leroy 'Tony" G. Steppe, and a great-grandson, Grayson Dulong.

The funeral will be held at 11AM on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the Panama Baptist Church (21 N. Street). The Rev. Joel Hart Will officiate. Burial will be in the Panama Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7PM on Sunday, July 26 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). There will also be an hour of visitation one hour before the funeral (10AM - 11AM) on Monday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Panama Fire Department, the Ashville Fire Department, the Findley Lake Fire Department or, the Panam Baptist Church.
