Kennedy — Barbara Ann Greenberger, our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, 87, of Kennedy, passed away Thursday (July 2, 2026) at home with her children at her side, while assisted by Chautauqua County Hospice.
She was born April 18, 1939 in Westfield, the daughter of the late Anthony N. Nicosia and Mildred Irene (Booth) Nicosia.
Barb was a 1957 graduate of Falconer Central School. She was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp., having served honorably from March 27, 1958 to October 30, 1959. She began her career as a phlebotomist at WCA Hospital, where she was known for her caring nature and dedication. She chose to retire early so she and her husband could pursue their dreams of travel and adventure.
She lived life with an adventurous spirit and an open heart. Whether she was golfing on a sunny afternoon, sailing across the water, or walking the beach in search of the perfect seashell or piece of driftwood, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. The ocean was one of her happiest places, especially in the Bahamas and Virginia Beach, where they spent countless days sailing, making lifelong friends, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. Together, they embraced adventure. She proudly flew alongside him as he piloted their airplane, and the two traveled extensively in their motorhome, visiting nearly every state in the country. They treasured the freedom of the open road, meeting new people, reconnecting with friends, and experiencing the beauty of America together.
Later, she discovered another calling, operating the snack bar at a park in Virginia, where she loved serving children and families, greeting everyone with a smile and making lasting connections.
Creativity flowed through everything she did. She lovingly handcrafted unique gifts and beautiful blankets for each of her children and grandchildren, leaving them treasured keepsakes that will forever remind them of her love. Her hands were always busy creating something special, and her generosity knew no bounds.
She will also be remembered for her quick wit and remarkable sense of humor. She could make anyone laugh with her clever remarks and playful spirit., remaining sharp, funny and full of life right until the very end.
More than anything, she treasured her family, her many friends, and the adventures she shared with those she loved. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, the memories she created, the traditions she began, and the love she gave so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her adventurous spirit, laughter, kindness, and unwavering love will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
