Arthur Davidson Webster Jr., 83, of Dewittville, NY, and formerly of Pittsburgh, PA and Webster Groves, MO, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born May 25, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Arthur D. Webster Sr., and Jennie Butler Webster.
He was a 1961 graduate of Manheim Township High School in Lancaster, PA. He then earned a bachelor's in economics from Duke University, followed by a master of divinity from Princeton Seminary and then his Doctorate from Pittsburgh Seminary. Art was privileged to lead churches in Pittsburgh, PA, Wheeling, WV, Webster Groves, MO, Lake Forest, IL, and Westfield, NY.
Arthur served on the boards of the Lawson Center, Chautauqua Lake Association, and the Lake Commission, and many years on the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy, where he was named Director Emeritus. He enjoyed learning about the ecology and natural history of the lake and Chautauqua Region. Art enjoyed many pleasant hours boating and fishing on Chautauqua Lake.
Arthur is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Fishpaw Webster, whom he married June 10, 1967 in Baltimore, MD, a niece, Julie (Bob) Shaw of Wilmington, NC, a great niece and nephew, Sydney Shaw and Logan Shaw, a brother-in-law, Fred Horchler of Lancaster, PA, and a cousin, Jim (Ann) Baxter of Rochester, NY. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Horchler.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Westfield on Sunday, July 26, at 3PM. Inurnment will be in the Webster Groves Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden in Webster Groves, MO, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Chautauqua Lake Watershed Conservancy (71 E. Fairmont Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750).
