Alice M Hulings
1943-2026
Alice M Hulings
Alice M Hulings, 83, of Ashville, NY passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2026.
She was born at her family home in Ashville. NY on May 4, 1943, to the late John and Myrtle (Whiting) Fardink Sr. Alice graduated from Panama Central School in 1961.
After marrying her husband, Eugene, they moved to Buxton, North Carolina where Eugene was stationed in the United States Navy. They lived there for four years, renting from the Jennette family, who quickly became family to them. The friendship remained strong throughout their lives, and family vacations to the Outer Banks every summer became a cherished tradition. Alice enjoyed a girl’s trip with her daughters and granddaughters to OBX in February 2025 and made her final trip with family last summer.
Prior to her retirement, Alice worked at the Early Learning Center in Ashville. Before that, she cared for children in her home for many local families, treating them as if they were her own. Many of the children whose lives she touched remained special to her throughout her life.
Her compassion for children extended far beyond her job. While working at the Early Learning Center, Alice and Eugene opened their hearts and home to a young foster child in need of a loving home who was eventually welcomed into their family as their son. It was one of the many ways she shared her heart with others.
Alongside her husband, she coached her daughter’s baseball team – yes, baseball, before softball was a thing. The team loved Alice and Eugene as coaches and affectionately renamed the team “Eugene’s Team and Alice Too,” even creating team t-shirts to celebrate them.
Alice was involved in every aspect of her children’s lives. Whether it was Girl Scouts, 4-H, sports, or any other activity they pursued, she was always there. She never missed a game, horse show, or special event. Her dedication extended beyond her own children, as many of their friends became like family to her. Alice also enjoyed serving her community and volunteered at the voting polls each November.
Alice was dedicated to her community and took pride in serving others. In recognition of their commitment to the community and the many lives they touched, Alice and Eugene were honored as Citizens of the Year, an achievement they were both proud to receive.
She was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan, especially of Jim Kelly, a loyal NY Yankees and a supporter of Panama sports.
Alice treasured spending time with her family. Whether gathering at the lake for holidays, attending Bills and Yankees games, enjoying family vacations, or simply making memories together, she treasured every moment. She especially loved finding the perfect gift for those she cared about. Whether it was for a child, grandchild, friend, doctor, nurse, therapist, Alice had a special talent for making people feel appreciated and loved through thoughtful gifts and acts of kindness. Giving to others brought her great joy, and her generosity touched countless lives.
Alice will be deeply missed by her husband of more than 62 years, Eugene L Hulings, whom she married on December 31, 1963, and her children, Tammy (Douglas) Hosier of Ashville, NY, Todd (Jessica) Hulings Sandston, Virginia, Teresa (Scott) Puder of Jamestown, NY and Earl Hulings of Jamestown, NY; her beloved Grandchildren, Tara, Derek and Kyle Hosier, Ryan (Britney) and Skyler Hulings, step-grandchildren, Alyssa Crews, Preston Millburn, and Sophia Nickolenko, and Great Grandchildren, Jaxson and Ava Hulings.
Nothing brought Alice greater happiness than her grandchildren. The special bond and love they shared was one of the greatest joys of her life.
Alice is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends, especially her lifelong friend, Lucille Marts. Friends since Kindergarten, Alice and Lucille remained friends throughout their lives. Together they shared countless adventures, a love of good food, and 25 years as Buffalo Bills season ticket holders. They never shared a dessert, always getting their own. Lucille is truly family and is affectionately known as “Aunt Lucille.”
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by brothers, Jack (Eddy) Fardink and Jim (Janice) Fardink and her sister, Betty (Don) Card.
Although her family & friends will miss her dearly, they will forever treasure the memories they shared and the unconditional love she gave so freely.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ong, Courtney, Hospice, the Visiting Nurses Association, and the many family members and friends who provided Alice compassionate care and support throughout her journey. While we cannot name everyone individually, please know how deeply grateful we are for the kindness, comfort, and love you shared with her and our family.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Cathy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Sunday in the funeral home.
