Steven Anthony Kosthorst
1948-2026
Steven Anthony Kosthorst
Steven Anthony Kosthorst, 78, passed away in his sleep at home on June 27th, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. His devoted wife, Vicki, was by his side. They were married on June 12, 1992. Their marriage was one of love, respect, patience, and laughter, lots of laughter.
Steve was born in Jamestown on June 22, 1948, the eldest son of the late Anthony Kosthorst and Sonya Gustafson Kosthorst. He attended Jamestown High School, graduating with the class of 1966. Steve was a very proud veteran of the US Army serving from 1968 to 1970. Known for his legendary dry wit and impeccably timed puns and one-liners, he could clear a room of serious tension with a single, perfectly delivered dad joke. He was a man of few words, but every single one of them was intended to make you smile.
He was employed by TT bearing in North Carolina, Moore Bearing/Applied Industrial Technologies in Denver, Colorado before returning to Jamestown in 2008, where he worked for Kaman Industrial Technologies until retiring in 2014.
Steve was very proud of his Swedish heritage being an involved member of the Vikings Ingjald Lodge IOV #65 for many years. He served as Chief in 2013 and currently as a Trustee and Secretary Treasurer of the Past Chiefs. Steve enjoyed the traditions and the brotherhood of the Club. He shared many laughs, flipping pancakes for Breakfast with Santa, serving up chicken at the Chicken Barbeques, cooking potatoes for the Herring Breakfasts, helping with games at the Family Picnic. He would help anywhere he was needed and loved it all!
He was also a member of the American Legion Celeron Post #777 and the Falconer Carroll Rod and Gun Club. He spent many years hunting, fishing, camping, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ATV riding in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. He brought that love of the outdoors back to Jamestown, and shared that love with his grandsons.
Besides his wife, Vicki, he is survived by a sister, Sherri (Fran) Ricottilli, a brother, Mike Kosthorst, daughters Aimee(Shane) Doney, Julie Franco, Amy (Todd) Miklas, Dr. Hilary (Michael) Seifert, Jillian (Jamie) Bloomquist and a son Christopher (Tina Clifford).
His greatest joy was watching and supporting his grandchildren in all their activities and events. He was so very proud to be their grandpa. They are Kailey White, Kasey Hammond, Alexis (Casey) Kruemcke, Zane (Brian) Franco-Winn, Cole, Grayson and Drew Bloomquist, Matthew (Yessenia Beltram) Seifert and Marcus Seifert. Seven great grandchildren, Bentley and Paisley White, Kamden and Rhyan Hammond, Mila, Clay and Lucy Kruemcke. A nephew, Andy (Aleisa Rizzo) Strong and a niece, Michelle Kosthorst. Cousins, Jim (Linda) Kosthorst and Jean Castle. As well as his close friends “brothers” Clark (Julie) Poppleton and Darrin (Tracie) Carlson. Steve was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Richard Doney, and brother-in-law, Steven Newark.
The memorial service for Steve will be at 10:00am Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Lind Funeral Home. Reverend Deacon Cathy Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 5-7pm at Lind’s, with a Vikings Past Chiefs ceremony at 7pm. The family will also receive friends for one hour prior to the service Thursday from 9-10am.
Donations may be directed to the Vikings IOV 65 Scholarship Fund at 215 North Main St. Jamestown, NY 14701 or to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
