Marla Joyce Brown-Johnson, 61, of Mud Creek Road, Kennedy, Town of Poland, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday (June 7, 2026) at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie.
She was born December 13, 1964 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Maurice W. and Carol L. (Baker) Brown. She was a 1983 graduate of Randolph Central School and was a longtime employee of the Resource Center in Celoron, as a Supervisor.
Marla attended the Ellington Community Church and occasionally sang with her father Maurice. She had also performed with her father’s well-known band, The Mountain Railroad Band. She enjoyed playing and singing Country Gospel Music, spending time with her grand-daughters and her family and she also enjoyed baking and gardening.
She is survived by a son and caregiver; Taylor Southwick of Kennedy, a son; Mitchell Southwick of Orchard Park, husband Gary Johnson, five brothers; Corey W. Brown of Frewsburg, Brian R. Brown of Kennedy, Darin L. (Kim) Brown of Falconer, Vance A. (Christal) Brown of Conewango Valley and Kyle L. (Jamie) Brown of Falconer, two beloved grad-daughters, Grace and Evie Southwick of Orchard Park, as well as many aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Carol L. (Baker) Brown and a son; Brandon Matjoulis.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 AM – Noon, Friday (June 12, 2026) from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph, New York 14772. Funeral services will follow at Noon n the funeral home. Pastor Jennifer Delahoy will officiate. Burial will be in the the Valley View Cemetery in Ellington.
