Margaret A. Swanson

1942-2026

Margaret A. Swanson, 84, of Busti, died Friday June 12, 2026, in UPMC Hamot, Erie.

A lifelong area resident, she was born June 12, 1942, in Gowanda, a twin daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Ferneza Mierzwa, Sr.

She was a graduate of Pine Valley Central School.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Southwestern Central School where she worked as a teacher’s aide. She was also a waitress at Bud’s Carriage House for many years.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She will be remembered for the love and support she provided for her family. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching birds at her bird feeders. Most of all, she enjoyed time she spent with her husband, whom she fell in love with from the first moment she saw him.

Surviving is two sons, Barry (Barbara) Swanson of Jamestown and Jeffrey (Molly) Swanson of Busti; grandchildren, Mikaela and Emily Swanson and Emma and Jacob Martin; a sister, Patrcia Kaus of Dunkirk; twin sister, Mary Griffin of Busti and a brother, Thomas Mierzwa, Jr of South Dayton.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gust Swanson, whom she married June 30, 1962, and who died December 3, 2025, and a brother, Edward Mierzwa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church

Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-6 pm Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
