1952-2026

Jean Monroe Troxell, 73, of Steamburg, Town of Coldspring, passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a courageous battle with illness.

Born on December 18, 1952, in Salamanca, New York, Jean was the daughter of the late Victor and Mae (Stacey) Monroe. She attended Randolph Central School and built a life rooted in hard work, family, and devotion to those she loved. For more than 30 years, Jean proudly co-owned and operated Peterson Dairy Farm in the Town of Coldspring alongside her family. She later retired from the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, where she worked in Housekeeping. Whether on the farm, at work, or at home, Jean was known for her strong work ethic, determination, and willingness to help others.

Jean found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also had a special love for animals, especially her horses and turkeys, which brought her endless happiness throughout her life. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and making desserts for family and friends. Her kitchen was often filled with the smells of homemade meals and sweet treats, and her home was a place where everyone felt welcomed and loved.

Jean is survived by her son, Ellis (Cheryl) Troxell of Steamburg; her daughters, Angela (Brian Bunker) Peterson of Bradford, Pennsylvania, Renee Peterson of Steamburg, and Vanessa Peterson of Steamburg; her grandchildren, Shawn Troxell, Barrett Johnson, Zane Henderson, Bryson Peterson, and Shelby Steward; her great-grandchildren, Brantley Troxell, Lucas Steward, and Bowe Steward; and her cousin, Betty Buttaccio of Newark, New York.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved partner, Theodore (Ted) Peterson Jr., who passed away on January 9, 2010; her cousin, Joan Monroe Hale; and Joan’s sons, Michael and Leonard Monroe.

Those who knew Jean will remember her for her strength, resilience, generosity, and the fierce love she had for her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
