Everett L. Nelson

1932-2026

Everett L. Nelson, 93, of Bemus Point, passed away peacefully Thursday June 18, 2026. He was born to the late Henry L. and Bobbie Kelly Nelson in Jamestown on July 20, 1932.

Everett married the love of his life, Patricia A. Swanson, on July 3, 1954. Together, they lovingly raised their family while owning and operating Nelson Truck Lines in Stow.

Before starting Nelson Truck Lines, Everett drove a semi truck for many years and took great pride in having driven a million miles without having an accident – a fact that he relayed to young drivers in the family on more than one occasion. As he approached retirement, he started Nelson Golf Carts, a hobby business that became quite popular in the area and was an enterprise that earned him many friends as he ran it well into his 80s.

He had a beautiful voice and it gave him great pleasure to sing to people, often while playing his guitar. From the chorus in school, his band The Moonlight Ramblers, singing to his wife and children or in the church choir or singing to his fellow Seniors or his caregivers, his 93 years were filled with music and love.

A devoted family man, Everett and his beloved wife, Pat, were married for over 70 years. He missed her every day after her passing. Their children were blessed to have had such a loving father, and a wonderful example of a moral, caring, and kind man. He was a father figure to many others who cared about him.

Everett leaves behind his children: William (Linda Helwig) Nelson of Land O Lakes, FL; Nancy (Thomas) Corey of Tully, NY; Betsy (Jack) Wiesener of Saratoga Springs, NY; Robert (Crystal) Nelson of Bergen, NY; Daniel (Sheryl) Nelson of Bemus Point, NY; and Douglas Nelson of Tallahassee, FL; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his wife Patricia A. Nelson on January 13, 2025; his brothers Lenhart and Lauren Nelson; and sisters Evelyn Stilson and Gwendolyn Eggleston.

Friends will be received from 9 am to 10:30 am Wednesday July 1, 2026, in the Lind Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 11 am in the Fluvanna Cemetery. Pastor Clyde Mohl will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Paley Foundation (thepaleyfoundation.org); or to Chautauqua Adult Day Services (seniordayprograms.com, 358 East 5th Street, Jamestown, NY 14701).
