Shirlea A. Roman

Shirlea Ann Roman, 84, of Jamestown, died Thursday May 7, 2026, in UPMC Chautauqua.

A native of Gowanda, she was born April 9, 1942, the daughter of the late William and Marian Smith Blatner.

She earned a Bachelor of Education degree from Buffalo State University.

Prior to her retirement she was employed by the Jamestown Public School District for 22 years as a teacher at C.C. Ring Elementary School.

Her past memberships include Society for the Creative Anachronism, National Education Association, NYS Teachers Association, Jamestown Teachers Association, Jamestown Concert Association and a former board member of Shoestring Players. Her obituary picture was actually taken for the Shoestring Players production of “A Little Night Music.”

Shirlea enjoyed crafts, needlework, beading and medieval research.

Surviving is her brother Keith Blatner of Pullman, WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Roman, Jr., whom she married February 4, 1983, and who died January 12, 1988, and a brother Leo Blatner.

In keeping with Shirlea’s wishes, no funeral service or visitation will be observed.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
