Mary Hatch

With great sadness, word has been received of the recent passing of Carmella “Mary” (Ciancio) Hatch, on Thursday, April 23, 226, at Atirum NE Cabarrius Hospital, Concord, NC.

Mary was born October 5, 1937, in Jamestown, NY to Carmello and Carmella (Lucalano) Parishioner of St. James Church and has retained an active membership, to this day, with Ct. St. Gertrude #92-Catholic Daughters of the Americas. While living in Jamestown, she enjoyed the social connection with many fine ladies of the organization and worked on many community fundraising projects.

Mary was a Jamestown High School graduate and was employed by Jamestown Art Metal until it closed.

Marry married Edward James Hatch, Sr. in 1971 with whom she shared her life for 52 years.

Beginning in 1975, they owned and operated Hatch’s Restaurant and Bar in Jamestown, for 22 years, until retiring to Ft. Myers, Florida, in 1997. Upon moving to Florida, she enjoyed the company of many new friends and also many Jamestown “snowbird” friends in her new community. She was very active in the community’s women’s group, where she was always vigorously involved in fundraising activities, raising several thousands of dollars to benefit many worthy charities.

Mary moved to Concord, NC a year ago in order to live closer and enjoy her remaining years with her son, Eddie and family members.

Mary is survived by her loving son, Edward J. Hatch, Jr. and grandchildren, Tage, Jordan and Holly Hatch, all of North Carolina. Mary is also survived by nieces, Katy Hollenbeck, Louanne Morehouse and Carmella Ciancio of Jamestown; Sandra Ciancio and Mandy Ganndhi of Florida; and nephews, John Ciancio of Jamestown and Joseph Ciancio of Florida. Mary also leaves behind her very special friends, Nicole (Bova) Erdel, Melissa (Foulk) Arrington and Betty Sager, whom she lovingly regarded as family.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Hatch, Sr.; her parents, Carmella (Lucalano) and Carmello Ciancio; brothers, Anthony “Tony”, Joseph and John Ciancio.

Mary will always be remembered for her fun loving, cheerful nature. She so much enjoyed an occasional visit to the casino and frequently playing cards with her friends. However, she will most importantly be remembered for her love of family, her great cooking and kindness and generosity toward everyone she met. She will be very sadly missed.

No funeral services are planned at this time.
