Larry S. Holmstrom 1940-2026
Larry S. Holmstrom
Larry Sven Holmstrom, 85, passed away at Heritage Green Nursing Home on May 20, 2026. Larry was born on July 5, 1940, in Jamestown, NY, to Sven and Margaret Holmstrom and was raised on the family farm on Wellman Road.
He had a love for animals and the outdoors. He started helping with the farm chores at age 5 and was driving tractor doing field work when he was 10!
He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1958 and attended Alfred State University. He then took over running the farm.
Larry and Charlotte were married on March 21, 1964. After operating his own farm and then working for other farmers in the area, Larry began driving truck for Maplevale Farms. He worked there until his retirement in 2005, after more than 20 years of service. Larry enjoyed getting acquainted with his coworkers and customers and seeing the countryside as he drove his routes.
He took great interest in history and politics, and their vacations often reflected that interest.
Larry was proud of his Swedish heritage and often read books or watched documentaries about Swedes.
Faith and family were always Larry’s priorities, though. He was an active member of Abbe Reformed Church for 60 years. He often shared many fond memories of growing up with his sister Twyla Sales and their close extended family. He truly enjoyed their family birthday and holiday parties and reunions.
Larry and Charlotte had two daughters, Gwen Gleason (Sam) and Gail Lemke; and a special “daughter” in Australia, Melanie (Malcolm). They delighted in having eight grandchildren: Tracey Onuffer (Ryan), Courtney Chamberlin (Taylor), Kevin, Trevor, and Jared Gleason, Rachel Reid (Daniel), Ryan Lemke (Alyssa) and Hayden Lemke; as well as seven great grandchildren (Chase, Kaydence, Riley, Sydney, Solar, Emilia, and Emryn).
Larry and Charlotte were busy in their retirement years attending all church, school, and other extracurricular events in which their grandchildren participated, often being the first to arrive!
Other than family, his 1929 Model A Ford car and Farmall tractor that he had restored were Larry’s pride and joy. He often took friends and family for rides in the car and used the tractor for hay wagon rides.
He was a loving, devoted husband and father – strong and steady through life’s ups and downs. As she neared the end of her time at home, he was determined to be the caregiver to Charlotte even with his own health problems. We take great consolation in knowing they are together again in glory.
Visitation will be held on Saturday July 11, 2026, from 1-3 pm with a memorial service to follow at 3pm at Abbe Reformed Church, Clymer, NY.
Memorials may be made to Abbe Reformed Church, 595 Clymer-Sherman Road, Clymer, NY 14724.
