Helen I. Ongley

Helen I. Ongley, 100, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday May 4, 2026, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

Born September 10, 1925, in Torpedo, PA, a daughter of the late John and Lucille Van Guilder Sterling.

After graduating from Townville High School in 1943, she went on to Jamestown General Hospital School of Nursing earning a degree in Licensed Practical Nursing in 1966.

Prior to her retirement in 1987, she was employed by the Lutheran Home and earlier by Jamestown General Hospital as an LPN.

Helen’s lifelong faith in God was extremely important to her. She was a member of New Creation Assembly of God and formerly a member and Sunday school teacher at Jamestown Free Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and gardening, but will be most remembered for her baking and the nickname “pie lady.”

Surviving is a daughter, Cynthia (Wayne) Goff of Jamestown; grandchildren, Lisa Harris of Denver, CO and Andrew (Jamie) Trostle of Rochester, NY; three step daughters, Lorraine McNulty (John) of West Windfield, NY and Cathy Heywood (Stewart) and Melody (Andre) Indelicato of Jamestown; five step grandchildren Seamus McNulty, Jessica Weise (Seth), and Valerie Addy, Alisha, and Alexander Heywood and several great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her first husband, Alton Thompson who died September 27, 1960, her second husband C. Wendell Ongley who died March 31, 2009; a son, Ronald Thompson; and a sister Martha Glace.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, in the Lind Funeral Home where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Sanford Cemetery, Sanford, PA.
