Gene L. Coan

Gene L. “Geno” Coan, 94 of 2882 Garfield Road, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday May 10, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family.

He was born June 27, 1931, in Warren, a son of the late Kenneth and Maude McKoon Coan.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Hopes Windows as a welder for over 40 years.

His memberships include Hillcrest Baptist Church, American Legion, War Vets Recreation and Jamestown Area Bowling Association where he served as a director for many years.

He was a proud Navy Veteran and enjoyed meeting monthly on a Saturday morning at the Fenton Historical Society with Vets finding Vets for the Monthly Veteran Canteen.

Geno was well known for his skill as a pitcher in fast pitch softball leagues. Also well known for his skill as a classic bowler in the area for over 50 years. He was an Umpire for baseball and softball for many years and was always very proud to be a very fair Ump. He raised Beagles for hunting rabbits. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed passing down his knowledge of the outdoors to his grandchildren. He really enjoyed playing a competitive game of Horseshoes with his brothers. In younger years Gene always planted a large garden. In his later years Gene could be found sitting in his favorite chair reading his Bible and the Jamestown Post Journal front to back cover.

Surviving are two daughters, Diane Ostrom and Sherrie (Don) Tonkin both of Jamestown; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Norm) Lindell, Jason Ostrom, Justin Ostrom, Jed (Kendra Mosher), Jakob Tonkin, Joshua (Ashley Lundmark) Tonkin and Jonah (Lauren) Tonkin and four great grandchildren, Jayla, Jude, Ty and Avery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Bratt Coan, whom he married October 25, 1952, and who died May 28, 2018; a son, Wayne Coan and siblings, James Coan, Harold “Shorty” Coan, Nancy Lee and Patricia Bennett.

The funeral will be announced at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church or Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care.
