Donald H. Haskin Sr.

1936-2026

Donald H. Haskin Sr.

Donald H. Haskin Sr. (Budda), 90, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He was born April 9, 1936, in Westfield, NY, the son of the late Max and Isabelle Holbrook Haskin.

Budda was a 1954 graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School. Budda had worked as a farmer, having been well known for his Ostrich farm, Ostrich Sticks and his Crossroads Booth.

He was a lifetime member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, a previous member of the Westfield Fire Department, the Masonic Lodge and the Westfield Moose.

One of Budda’s passions was coaching in the Westfield Golden Hawk Midget Football Team. A highlight season included going undefeated with zero points scored against the team. He also enjoyed his Ostrich farm, hunting deer, turkey and bear, puttering with bees, going to the annual family reunion, going to the Buffalo Bills games, tailgating with his son in law & grandsons, & driving to the pier in the morning to visit with Jim Sanderson. He also rooted for the Cleveland Browns and was a Nascar fan. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family and being at home on his 26 acres known as Budda’s Whitetail Acres. He was happiest there.

Budda is survived by three children, Kathleen Haskin of Brockport, NY, Kelly (Richard) Hotchkiss of Mayville, NY, and Susan (Jerry) Fairweather of Westfield, NY, five grandsons, RJ Hotchkiss, McKenzie (Caitlin) Hotchkiss, Aaron (Alicia) Smith, Joshua Smith and Noah Smith, eight great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Sydney, Owen, Fionn, Meeabh, Max, Sawyer, and Molly and two brothers David (Sandy) Haskin and Neil (Toni) Haskin, both of Westfield. He also had many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald H. Haskin Jr. (Little Budda), his first wife and mother of his children, Trudy, and four siblings, Robert, Max, Janet, and Nancy.

The family would like to give special thanks to his VNA nurses, Liz and Carrie, the staff at Westfield Memorial Hospital, Family Health Medical Services in Westfield & the Wound Clinc also in Westfield along with Tim Sanderson and Kayla Hotchkiss.

At Budda’s request, there will be no public services observed. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
