Dennis D. Marsh “Denny” of Bloomingburg, NY passed away unexpectedly.
Denny was born on February 6, 1950 in Jamestown NY to Musette Green Marsh and William Marsh, Sr.
He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968 and, immediately afterward, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. A deeply proud Marine, he served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion.
In 1974, Denny began his career with the New York State Police, where he served with distinction for 27 years. He became a highly respected Senior Investigator with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Middletown, NY Troop F. Over the course of his career, he earned numerous accolades and commendations, contributing to major criminal cases, including investigations involving John Gotti and organized crime syndicates.
Following his retirement from the State Police, Denny continued his commitment to public service as The Chief of the Town of Goshen Police Department for 12 years. He was widely respected by his peers and deeply admired by all who knew him. After retiring from Goshen, he served an additional three years as an Investigator with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
After his retirement, Denny found his greatest joy on the golf course, especially when playing with his nephew, Denny Barry. The two were best friends and nearly inseparable. They were longtime members of a golf league for 30 years, with Denny proudly serving as its president. Each year, they looked forward to taking golf trips together – time set aside to relax, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company.
Denny was a devoted New York Yankees fan who often joked that he never missed a pitch. He would frequently call his sister, Wendy, to give her a detailed play by play of the games, sharing his enthusiasm and love of baseball with her.
He also cherished the camp he built in Ellington, New York, a place that became his sanctuary. There, he spent many memorable seasons deer hunting with his son Jason, his nephew Denny, his brother Bill, and close friends.
He shared a special bond with his sister Wendy; they spent countless hours together listening to music, reminiscing about their childhood, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Denny was an exceptional cook and truly enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for others. He found great happiness in bringing people together through food and took pride in cooking for family and friends, always making sure everyone felt welcomed and well cared for.
Denny is survived by his beloved wife, Jeannette Carbone Marsh, his loving son, Jason Marsh and his partner Donna Sambone of Airmont, NY; and his stepson Derrick Rosario and his wife Elicia of Middletown, NY. He is also survived by his cherished granddaughters, Grace and Lauren Marsh of Airmont, NY.
He leaves behind his devoted sister, Wendella “Wendy” Barry, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Barry Sr.; his niece, Kimberly Barry Kennedy, with whom he shared a close bond, and her husband Hugh Kennedy; and his adored great-nieces, Karley, Kaitlyn, and Kendall Kennedy, all of Jamestown, NY. He is also survived by his nephew Dennis Barry and his partner, Lisa Salisbury of Bloomingburg, NY, as well as his niece Brandi Marsh of Jamestown, NY.
In addition to his parents, Denny was predeceased by his sisters, Michaele (“Mickey”) and Jeannee’, and his brother, Bill.
Denny was laid to rest on April 17, 2026, at Lakeview Cemetery- New Soldiers Circle in Jamestown, NY, with full military honors.
