Bradley E. Long

1939-2026

Bradley E. Long, 87, of 50 Gifford Avenue, formerly of Mayville, died Monday, May 25, 2026, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing surrounded by family.

An area resident all his life, he was born May 3, 1939, in Jamestown, the son of the late Earl and Leora Johnson Long.

He was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown High School and went on to graduate from Wheaton College, Illinois in 1961. At Wheaton, he was part of the ROTC program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant upon graduation. There he met his wife Lois Kenyon. They both shared a love of music and did gospel-team work together. They were married in 1962 just before leaving for Germany where Brad served in the 11th Armored Cavalry as a platoon leader on the Czechoslovakian border.

Upon returning to Jamestown, he worked in Human Resources at MRC/TRW. Following that he worked as Director of Human Resources at the Chautauqua County Personnel Department and also served as Town Supervisor for Town of Chautauqua for 14 years.

He was on the board of directors for AAA, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the American Red Cross. He was president of New York State Personnel Officers Association, New York State Public Employers Management Association, was a member of the Jamestown Area Labor Management Committee and a 50-year member of the Chautauqua Fire Department.

A man of strong Christian faith, he was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He and his wife, Lois, had a part-time ministry after Germany, involving travelogues of their time in Europe and singing. They sang at churches and conferences for many years.

Most of all, Brad cherished time with family. Many special memories were made traveling in the big family station wagon across the states or just down to Myrtle Beach. He introduced his sons and grandsons to his love of cars and racing and many exciting times were had alongside racetracks at Watkins Glen, Stateline Speedway and in the woods watching rally cars fly by.

He embraced his Swedish heritage and one of his favorite occasions was a Swedish Christmas Eve buffet of korv, ham loaf, pickled herring and lingonberries. He was a devoted husband, father, son and brother and he will be deeply missed and remembered for his leadership, wit, wisdom, warmth and steady, calm demeanor.

Brad is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois Kenyon Long, whom he married July 28, 1962; two children Heather Brannon of Charlotte, NC and Matthew Long of Mayville and two grandchildren Andrew (Barb) Brannon of Charlotte, NC and Nathan Brannon of Washington DC.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Jonathan Long and two sisters Marilyn (David) Hamilton and Jean (Arnie) Frank.

A funeral will be held at 11 am Saturday June 13, 2026 in the Lind Funeral Home. A private, family burial will be held at the Chautauqua Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Jonathan E. Long Memorial Scholarship – for graduating seniors of Chautauqua Lakes Central School c/o Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown NY 14701 or Hillcrest Baptist Church, 40 Hallock Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
