Thomas S. Giambra

Thomas S. Giambra

Thomas S. Giambra, 81, passed away in his sleep on April 14, 2026 in Batavia, New York. He was born to parents Josephine Messina Giambra and Joseph Giambra on June 27, 1944, in Jamestown, New York.

A lifelong resident of Jamestown, Thomas began his long work career at places like Twin-Kiss Drive-Inn, The Post-Journal, and Blackstone Corporation before, in 1967, settling into a lengthy career as a Field Engineer at IBM, from where he eventually retired.

After retirement there, and with everything he knew about computers, he carried on that work for Chautauqua County in Mayville, and at the Chautauqua Institution. In fact, for his family and friends, he was the guy to call when anyone had trouble with computers. He never hesitated to spend hours on the phone trying to make things right, and he always did just that.

Thomas had many hobbies and pastimes throughout his life… an avid hunter, a backyard auto mechanic, an electrician, a carpenter, and, in honor of his father (a veteran of the Normandy Invasion), he was a World War II historian. Additionally, he was an aficionado of all things electronic. In the 1970s he purchased the first microwave oven the moment they became available, and he spent a lot of money on the first VCR, much to the delight of his family. But in his own way, it was taking care of those he loved that he focused most on. For that and for many other things, he will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of more than 30 years, Janet Giambra; two sons, Thomas Giambra, Jr of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Timothy Giambra and wife, Beth of Raleigh, North Carolina; one daughter, Trisha Giambra of Council, Idaho; granddaughter, Jessica Giambra and husband Marco; two grandsons, Kyle and Michael Giambra; a great-grandson, Huitzilin Suarez; three sisters, Patricia, Sandra and Joette Giambra, as well as many other family members and friends who will miss him a great deal.

His legacy of loyalty and caretaking will be carried on by those who knew and loved him. As per his wishes, no visitation or service will be held. His remains will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
