Stephen L. Peterson, 84, of Jamestown, died Saturday April 25, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family.
A lifelong Jamestown resident, he was born May 2, 1941, a son of the late Leonard and Ruth Peterson.
He was a 1959 graduate of Jamestown High School followed by graduation from Jamestown Community College in 1962.
Prior to his retirement in 2002, he was employed by Valeo and earlier Blackstone as an ultrasonics engineer. Previously he worked for Jamestown Telephone Company during the installation of the first 911 system.
Steve held a patent for the air control panels on semi-trucks, developed ultrasonic cleaners for radiators, and taught electronics at JCC
Throughout the years, he was a very active member of Ivory Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, Sunday school teacher and custodian. He also donated over 85 pints of blood to the American Red Cross.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley Long Peterson, whom he married June 9, 1962; and two sons, David (Cheri) Peterson of Jamestown and Daniel Peterson of Columbus, Ohio.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Bethany Ann Peterson and a son, Douglas Peterson.
A time of visitation will be held at the Lind Funeral Home from 4-6 pm Saturday, May 2nd, which would have been Steve’s 85th Birthday. No funeral service will be observed.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
