Robert G. Ortendahl
Robert G. Ortendahl, 96, of Jamestown, died Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
He was born July 25, 1929, in Jamestown, a son of the late J. Reuben and Francina Grandin Ortendahl.
Following graduation from Falconer High School in 1948, he went on to earn a degree in 1951 from Mohawk Community College where he was a member of the Toppers Fraternity, baseball and basketball teams.
Prior to his retirement in 1991, he was employed by Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Buffalo as an account executive. He was also a part-time employee of the Jamestown City Parks and Recreation Department.
He was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church, Viking Lodge, Norden Club, RSVP, Rotary Club, Jamestown Lions Club, and Senior Horseshoe League.
He volunteered for Jamestown Area Safety Council, Jamestown Little League, Greenhurst Village, Inc., Jamestown Republican Committee, Chautauqua County Probation Department, Meals on Wheels which named him volunteer of the year in 2011, and Jamestown Babe Ruth Baseball. He organized the first Babe Ruth parade in 1980 for the World Series that was held in Jamestown.
He enjoyed golf, softball, horseshoes and Lakeside Bowling League. He had a hole in one at Cable Hollow Golf Course on his way to winning the club championship in 1996.
Surviving are four children: Lynne (John) Ecklund of Ashville, Jon (Julie) Ortendahl of Mayville, Claire Tomassini and Janet (Rob) Holcomb both of Jamestown. Grandchildren: Ryan (Nellie) Ecklund, Shannon (Bob) Lingle, Trevor (Tonya) Ecklund, David (Melissa) Ortendahl, Kristen Hoadley, Megan (Adam) McKinley, Matthew Tomassini and Andrew Holcomb; great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Chandra and Abigail Ecklund, Harper, Harrison and Henrik Lingle; Joshua, Drew and Liam Ortendahl, Ashton and Connor McKinley; Connor and Audrey Holcomb; several nieces and nephews; and close friend, Marie Lindahl of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Lindquist and a son-in-law, Raymond Tomassini.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 17, at 1 pm at Lind Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 2 pm. Inurnment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
