Jose R. Caceres
Jose R. Caceres
Jose R. Caceres (“Pops”), 70, of Jamestown, NY, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026. Born on January 30, 1956, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the beloved son of Pedro Caceres and Elizabeth Rosario.
Jose made his home in Jamestown, where he became known not just for his work but for his generous spirit and larger-than-life personality. He spent many years working as a mechanic with Whitehill Towing, a job he took great pride in. Pops was the kind of man who could fix just about anything, and if he couldn’t, he would still find a way to help. His kindness and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Outside of work, Jose truly knew how to enjoy life. He was a devoted fan of Bruce Lee and admired his strength and philosophy. He found peace and satisfaction in yard work, taking pride in keeping his space just right. Music was always a big part of his life–especially Spanish music–and during the summer months, it wasn’t uncommon to hear it playing loudly as he spent his days outdoors. He also enjoyed unwinding with a nice cold drink, surrounded by the people he loved.
Above all, Jose cherished his family. He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Nydia Caceres, Rhody Caceres, Calet Caceres, and Jonnie Perez. His son, Jose C. Caceres of Jamestown, NY; his daughters-in-law, Gabrielle D. Ewing of Jamestown, NY, and Jessica Whittenhall of Ohio. His grandchildren–Marcus A. Caceres Jr., Tishara M. Caceres, Isaiah M. Caceres, Joel C. Caceres, Keyaira N. Caceres, Annalise Caceres, and Ava Caceres–were the light of his life. He took immense pride in each of them and found great joy in watching them grow. Being “Pops” was a role he held close to his heart, and his love for his grandchildren was unconditional and unwavering.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Pedro; his brother, Pedro Perez; his beloved son, Marcus A. Caceres Sr.; and his nephew, Thomas “Sanch” Torres. While their loss weighed heavily on him, he carried their memories with him always.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to everyone who supported Jose throughout the years. A very special thank you goes to Tammy Albro, Billy Torres, and John Matteson. Your compassion, time, and care meant more to him than words can ever express. He was truly thankful for each of you, and your kindness will never be forgotten.
Jose will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his love of life, and the way he made others feel welcome and cared for. His presence, laughter, and spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on April 7, 2026, from 4 to 6 PM at Riccardi’s Hubert Funeral Home, 111 S. Main St., NY, to honor and celebrate his life. Donations can be dropped off to Tammy Albro at Buteras Towing (2nd St), 9 AM to 3 PM.
