Frank R. Gardner III

Frank Ross Gardner III (“Ross Gardner”), 88, a longtime pharmacist and respected member of the Jamestown, New York community, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Bedford, Massachusetts on April 3, 2026.

Born on Oct. 11, 1937, Ross was a lifelong resident of Jamestown and a proud steward of both his profession and his community. He graduated from Southwestern High School in 1955 and the University of Buffalo in 1959, beginning a lifelong career in pharmacy that would serve generations of local families with care, integrity, and quiet compassion. As the former owner of W-B & Swanson Pharmacy, Ross became a familiar and trusted presence to countless customers, always ready with a kind word, thoughtful advice, and a steady commitment to their well-being. In later years, Ross continued his career at the pharmacies at Quality and Tops Markets.

Ross took great pride in his work and the relationships he built over the years. His pharmacy was a cornerstone of the downtown Jamestown community on Third Street for many years, where people felt known and cared for. His professionalism and personal touch left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Outside of his career, Ross valued family, traveling, music, and the outdoors and could be seen most days exploring the woods and watching birds. He and his wife cherished their many visits to Toronto, Niagara on the Lake, and Chautauqua Institution where they explored museums, restaurants and operatic and theatrical performances. Ross was the quintessential family man, always making time for family and supporting and showing a keen interest in whatever endeavor his children or grandchildren were pursuing. His gentle and quirky sense of humor was at the ready to liven up any gathering or interaction and unite us all in a good laugh and an eyeroll moment. He will be remembered for his steady character, his dedication to helping others, and the legacy of compassion, kindness, hard work and resilience he leaves behind to his family, his profession and his community.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Gloria Gardner, who passed away in 2018 and by his parents, Frank R. Gardner II and Minnie Myrtle Marie McLoughlin. He is survived by his sister, Maxine (Richard) Fadale of Solon, Ohio; his daughter, Michele (Andrew) Crosby of Stow, Massachusetts; his son, Frank (Meghan) Gardner of Bedford, Massachusetts; and five cherished grandchildren.

Ross’s life was one of service, humility, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him and will be remembered with great respect and affection. Those wishing to commemorate and honor Ross are encouraged to donate to the Audubon Community Nature Center of Jamestown, NY. The family will hold private observances.
