Diane J. Peterson

Diane J. Peterson, 91, formerly of W. 18th Street, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA.

Diane was born on May 3, 1934, the eldest daughter of William and Iris Crawford Johnson.

Diane graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. She worked as a teacher’s Aide in Jamestown Public Schools for 14 years.

She was a member of the “Lucille Ball Little Theatre” for over 30 years. She was a costume mistress for over 43 shows and on stage in such shows including: “South Pacific”, “Damn Yankees”, 1986 production of “Wizard of Oz”, “Show Boat” and many others. She was an artistic Director for such plays as: “Village Wooing”, “The Curious Savage” and “The Housekeeper”.

Diane was a crafter and painter and entered her work in “Artist of Age” senior art exhibit and “Take a Seat” auctions. Best known for her solo work, singing at many of our area churches and her one-woman skits.

Diane was a member of Jamestown’s Juneteenth Celebration and The Underground Railroad Tableau. Member of Emmanual Baptist Church, member of the usher board and Sunday school teacher. She also worked for several years with the YMCA “after school project, bringing the history of Jamestown and Underground Railroad of Jamestown to schools in Jamestown. Diane worked for the Fenton Historical Societies Local Lore program.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Peterson whom she married in 1963 and who died in 1999; two sisters: Gaye Huggard and Lynne Brown.

Diane is survived by two sons: Dana W. (Diana) Scott and Phillip P. Scott both of Jamestown, N.Y.; two daughters: Robin M. (William) Warford of Virginia Beach, VA and Marla J. Harris of Jamestown, N.Y.; eight grandchildren: Taylor Scott, Alexander Scott, Cameron Harris, Brianna Harris, Donald Whitaker, Kristie Whitaker, Phillip P. Scott, II and Alyssa (Jordan) Staley; great-granddaughter: Karissa Thornton;a brother: David A. Johnson of Jamestown, N.Y.; a niece: Dr. Stacy Brown and great-niece: Makenna Lindsay.

Family and friends may visit at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 E. 5th St., Jamestown, N.Y. on Sunday from 2-4 PM. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 1 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 53 23rd St., Jamestown, N.Y. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Lakewood, N.Y.
