Steven T. Cheney

It is with heavy heart that I announce the passing of my beloved husband Steven T. Cheney, cherished by all who knew him, his warmth, kindness, and generosity, touched countless lives. His steadfast love and commitment to others will always be cherished, and he will be fondly missed. As we mourn Steve, we also celebrate a life well lived and beautiful memories he has left behind. He died peacefully March 5, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Born May 18, 1960 to Beverly and Derold Cheney who have since passed away. He was the middle child, leaving behind his sister Susan Brown and Brother Ricky Cheney both of Jamestown NY .

He graduated 1978 from Jamestown High school He would have received honors however he chose to skip some of his senior year classes to hang out at the mall and play foosball with his best friends Charlie Bellardo, Jim Andrews, and Lyn Hagberg. They also worked on their racing cars. As a teenager he participated in wrestling and football. Buth is true love was racing. He loved going to Stateline and racing cars. He met his wife, Lori when she was 14, he 16. Our union lasted 36 years but we knew each other for over 49 years. They were married on Sept 1, 1989. Steve moved to Lake Havasu City AZ in 1979 and worked for Al Snyder motors transporting motorhomes from Indiana to Lake Havasu, He moved back to Jamestown for a short period of time and moved back to Lake Havasu in 1980, He worked for BSO concrete for a short time. He then went to work for Bill and Tammy Ojers Accurate Concrete until 1994, They developed a strong bond. In 1995 he went to work for Cal McGovern, McGovern concrete. They developed a great relationship and in 2005, Cal sold the business to his son Mike and Steve. Mike and Steve had a great relationship, The crew called them mom and dad, not sure which was which, but I am sure there were other names that Cal used like Sonny Boy, and mumbles and grumbles. I am being prejudiced but Steve was the best at running a bobcat and he knew how to set up a house at any lot. He knew where it should go and how to best use the space he had. He and Mike retired from the business in 2024. Steve was an avid Nascar fan and like many others Dale Earnhardt was his guy. He was lucky enough to be a season ticket holder at the Phoenix track for 20 years. What started with six people turned into 45 by 2004. A task that was supposed to take one day ended up lasting five days. Best parties ever with our best of friends. He and Lori had a full life w no regrets. While it was difficult with his family living in NY and he in Lake Havasu, we managed to get to NY at least every three years. He loved his family deeply and he really loved wat we called our “family of Friends”. He genuinely loved his RZR and riding free in the desert. He was able to make his last trip to Utah for five weeks with our dearest friends. Unfortunately, following the trip, he was diagnosed with an untreatable form of cancer. He faced it head on and chose his path. He just wanted one more month of quality time to enjoy his life and he did. Friends stopped by and he was able to have happy hour w them, and he was able to enjoy his man cave.

Steve’s parents passed away before him. He is survived by his wife, Lori Cheney, of Lake Havasu City; his sister, Susan (Tom) Brown; his brother, Ricky (Rod) Cheney; his nephew, Casey (Cassie) Brown, and four children; his niece, Amanda Brown (Wayne) and three children; as well as one great-great-niece–all from Jamestown, NY. He is survived by three sisters-in-laws, Sherry (pat ) Kedrowski five children,(Mesa, AZ) Shirley (Eddie) Van ord, two children, one grandniece, Patricia Blanco one child, all from Jamestown NY. We want to say Thank you to Sherry Kedrowski who spent a month with us during this time and it helped greatly.

We thank Hospice of Havasu for their guidance. We also want to thank his family, my family, and our family of friends for all of the support during this difficult time.

A celebration of life is scheduled for April 18, 2026, from 3 to 6 pm at the Bridgeview Room beneath Shugrues. A celebration of life will be held in Jamestown, NY at a later date. Please join us in celebrating this great husband, uncle, brother-in-law, friend. It would have cost 10000 to put all the names of his friends, so we know you know who you are. His last words to his favorite song “Bye bye Miss American Pie”.
