Kathy R. Cherry

1951-2026

Kathy Rae (Bennett) Cherry, 74, of Ashville, NY, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at UPMC Chautauqua Hospital in Jamestown, NY, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 10, 1951, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Raymond O. Bennett and Betty L. Corbett.

Kathy was a 1969 graduate of Sto-Rox High School, McKees Rocks, PA, and soon earned an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design from the Community College of Allegheny County. She then led a career as a self-employed graphic artist.

Kathy’s life was enriched by what she enjoyed the most: her family and friends, art–primarily watercolors and acrylics–horses, and her flower and vegetable gardens. She was an active supporter of the non-profit organizations Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, E. Thomas Cherry, whom she married June 19, 1976; her daughter Melissa Cherry (Shawn Conti) of Pittsburgh, PA; her stepmother, Dorothy Bennett; her sister, Tara Haley (Robert Haley); two brothers, Robert Bennett and Raymond Bennett, all of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Michele Bennett, wife of Robert Bennett.

At Kathy’s request, no public service will be observed. A private celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family. However, those that knew Kathy will remember her by her loving smile, her distinct laugh, and the contagious kindness she shared with all around her.

Memorial donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity, the Westfield Memorial Hospital, or the Salvation Army. To leave a remembrance or to post condolences to the family, please visit freayfuneralhome.com
