James S. Auria, 93, of Jamestown, New York, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at UPMC Chautauqua.
Born on October 11, 1932, at Jamestown General Hospital, Jim was a lifelong resident of Jamestown and the second son of Frank Joseph and Clara (Costello) Auria. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Louis and Frank, and is survived by his brother, John.
Jim was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Connie (Mitchell) Auria, his childhood sweetheart. The two met as children while attending Jefferson Junior High, became sweethearts at the age of 14, and shared a lifelong love. They were married for 69 years. Together, they raised four children: Frank of Rochester, Louise of Jamestown, Jane of Jamestown, and Kathleen of Utah. Jim is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1951, completing additional coursework to graduate with his class, and went on to attend Jamestown Business College, where he studied accounting, finance, typing, and shorthand.
Jim was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. After completing basic training, he was assigned to Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he taught shorthand. He later served in Seoul, Korea, as a stenographer at Eighth Army Headquarters.
Following his military service, Jim returned to Jamestown Business College, where he both completed his studies and taught shorthand. He began working part-time for Harry Peck, owner of Peck News, eventually managing magazine distribution throughout Chautauqua County as well as in Corry and Warren, Pennsylvania.
Jim also dedicated over 50 years to the Jamestown Stamp Company, where he served as a supervisor before ultimately becoming President. His long career reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to his community.
In retirement, Jim found great fulfillment volunteering as a docent at The Jackson Center. He cherished the opportunity to give back and deeply valued the friendships he formed there. His time at the Center was among the most rewarding chapters of his life.
Jim will be remembered for his dedication to family, his steady presence, and the quiet impact he made on those around him.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday April 1, 2026, 1PM at St. James RCC Jamestown, NY
