Eleanor Miller

She was born in Jamestown, NY on Dec. 29, 1926 to Nan S. Keir and Frank A. Keir. She graduated from Jamestown High School in the class of 1944 and enrolled in Millard Fillmore School of Nursing, graduating in 1947. Eleanor was employed as a nurse at WCA Hospital in Jamestown and later at the infirmary at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA.

She married Dr. Robert E. Miller on Sept. 4, 1948 and was happily married until his death in 1985.They settled in Pittsburgh in 1949 and had two children there, Barbara and Tom.

Elly was a stay-at-home mom when the children were small, but she later became a volunteer at Presbyterian University Hospital for 18 years. She also volunteered for the Women’s Abuse Center. She was an avid and talented knitter and made many blankets, caps and scarves for charity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Janet Turk. Elly is survived by her children, Dr. Barbara Hollar (Steven) and Dr. Thomas Miller (Susan), as well as her grandchildren, Emily Leland (Allston) and Carrie Freeman (Craig) and four great-grandchildren.

Eleanor will be buried in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, NY. Funeral services will be private. No flowers, please. Memorials may be directed to Allegheny College, Office of Institutional Advancement, 520 N. Main St., Meadville, PA. 16335.
