Charlene C. Bigney
Charlene C. “Char” Bigney, 86, of 11 E. Burtis Street, Celoron, died Sunday March 15, 2026, in Absolut of Salamanca.
Born Sept. 2, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Ruth Freed Coan.
She was a 1957 graduate of Jamestown High School.
Char was a real people person and used that gift everywhere she worked. Whether managing the Town Club, tending bar at the Vikings, Embers Restaurant, and Satellite Bowling Alley or working in environmental services at manor Oak Nursing Home, she loved being engaged with people.
She was an avid reader and was a former member of Thule Lodge and the Vikings Lodge. She was rabid fan of the Buffalo Bills and Josh Allen. Also, she enjoyed watching professional golf and the Game Show Network and eating breakfast on Thursday mornings at Fishers Restaurant.
Surviving are four children: Kim (Mike) Touhey of Bemus Point; Susan (Tom Kane) Cook of Frewsburg; Michael (Karen) Cook of Rapid City, SD; and Jeanne (Gale Betts) Kaczar of Bemus Point; five grandchildren: Ryan (Ashley) Kaczar, Joseph (Jillian) Kaczar, Andrew Lusk, Kelly (Kendall Yeskey) Kaczar and Alison Woodward and eleven great- grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Bigney, whom she married Oct. 26, 1974, and who died Dec. 30, 2018; three brothers, David, Larry and Franklin Coan; and three sisters, Pauline Vincent, Dee Clark and Mary Lou Person.
In keeping with Char’s wishes, no funeral service or visitation will be observed.
