William J. “Bill” Servis

William J. “Bill” Servis, 73, of Jamestown passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2026 in his home due to a long illness.

He was born Jan. 27, 1952 in Jamestown the son of Lawrence and Mary Lou Walters Servis.

Bill was a 1970 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a graduated from SUNY Potsdam University. He proudly served his country in the US Army during The Vietnam War. Bill received two NYS Conspicuous Service Crosses for his career in the US Army, as well as receiving a Purple Heart.

Bill was a member of the American Legion, War Vets Recreation, Fraternal Order of Eagle # 2145, and Jamestown Marching Band Musicians Local 134. He served as bugler for Chautauqua Co. Color Guard American Legion; he was a founding member of The Vietnam Veterans Association, Jamestown Chapter. Bill was honored to play TAPS for the VVA at military funerals. He was honored to receive the Joseph Mason Award in 2009 from the United Way and the George Ritzer Award in 2010 from Chautauqua Labor Council. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. In his younger years he was a member of Boy Scouts receiving 21 merit badges but never received Eagle Scout status due to his age.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa A. Widlund Servis of Jamestown; his mother, Mary Lou Walters Servis of Dunkirk, NY; a son, Jay M. Servis of Erie, PA; a daughter, Christine (Lee) Hazelton of Jamestown, NY; six grandchildren: Jena Luce; Kylie (Dariusz) Grazulewicz; Tristen (Zach Shafer) Hazelton; Brandon Hazelton; Savannah (Tavian) Ryan; and Aiden Hazelton; five great-grandchildren: Bella, Grayson, Adalynn, Magnolia, Sterling; and his brother, Robert Servis of Georgia.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Servis and Terri’s daughter, Angela Widlund.

Visitation will not be observed.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
