Wayne Robert Smith age 56 of Panama, New York passed away Jan. 16, 2026, after a long and valiant fight with pancreatic cancer. He was born July 31, 1969, to Sharon and Richard Smith in Wellsville, New York. Wayne graduated from Scio Central School in 1987 and received an associate’s degree at Alfred State College in 2001. Wayne proudly served in the United States Air Force from July 1987 to August 1994. He married Susan Michele Welch on Feb. 25, 1989, until Jan. 25, 2013, when Sue passed away from ovarian cancer. Wayne married Lori Ann Penhollow Engallina on June 27, 2013.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Lori; and his children, James, Lauren (Cody Hiller), Ryan (Sarah and grandson August), Joshua (Emmitt Lindquist), Katherine and Jacob. His mother, Sharon Strawcutter; and his Faulkner siblings, David (Jackie), Rob (Nicole), Mark (Christine), Gene, and Becky; and other beloved family members.
Wayne was preceded in death by his Wife, Susan Smith and his father, Richard Lee Smith.
Wayne coached multiple sports including soccer, basketball and baseball at Portville and Scio Central schools from 1994 – 2003.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Wayne at the Rock Church 35 West Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, New York 14750 on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at 2 pm. For those who cannot attend live, the service will be webcast at therockcc.church. We will meet in the Gathering room at the church following services. To honor Wayne, we are asking attendees to wear their Bills gear or Red, white and blue.
