Nancy L. (Barnes) Whitford

Nancy L. (Barnes) Whitford, 93, of the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 16, 2026. Born in Jamestown, NY on Sept. 14, 1932, she was the wife of the late Richard L. Franklin and George Whitford and she was the daughter of the late Richard and Julian (Hager) Barnes.

Nancy was a resident of Jamestown for many years. Nancy dedicated 11 years of her career to the Jamestown Wal-Mart.

Nancy was known for her spirited and outgoing personality. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor that could light up any room. Friends and family alike were often greeted with her playful jokes and infectious laughter.

Nancy found solace and joy in nature. She cherished afternoons spent rock hunting at the Chautauqua gorge, where she delighted in the beauty of the outdoors. Her passions included a deep love for cats, tending to her plants and flowers, and admiring the delicate grace of butterflies.

Nancy is survived by her children, Scott Franklin, Brenda Franklin and Christopher Whitford; grandchildren, Richard Franklin, Tricia Franklin, Heather Hamilton, Robin, Sara Jones, Cheryl Kelly and Billie Jo Welch. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Nancy is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Edward Whitford Sr and her nephew, Edward Whitford Jr.

Funeral services will be held in private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by R. Michael Mackowiak III; McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, NY.
